Boating Safety Classes

Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 54 in Norfolk is offering boating safety classes.  These classes are free and open to the public.  There is a cost for materials only ($35.00).   These classes will help boaters meet requirements of a 2007 Virginia law that requires boaters to take an approved boating course.  The law is being phased in over the next several years.  This year, it requires all PWC Operators 35 years old and younger to take and pass a class bby July 1, 2010.   All motorboat operators will be required to take and pass a class  by July 1, 2016.  In addition, boaters who become certified may also qualify for possible insurance premium discounts from 10-15%. Pre-registration is required.  Conact Trish Martin at 672-5609 (cell) or pmartin72@cox.net for additional information.  For more information log onto http://a0540504.uscgaux.info/  .

Help bring Peter Home Dinner at La Hacienda in Surry

Sunday March 21st 5-9pm--Help bring Peter home. Have dinner at La Hacienda at 601 Colonial Trail East in Surry, Va. 50% of proceeds go toward the Support Peter Judkins Fund.  On Dec 9th, 2009, Peter Judkins entered Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, HI with back pain. While in the ER, Peter had a seizure and became paralyzed from the neck down and could not breathe. The doctors determined that he was infected with a severe bacterial infection (MRSA) that cut off blood flow to his spinal cord causing the seizure and paralysis. He is now on a ventilator to help him breathe and requires 24-hour nursing care since he cannot move his arms and legs. Peter is originally from Suffolk, VA where our parents currently live. He also has six brothers and sisters (mostly in Virginia). Peter very much wants to come home to Virginia to be with his family, but he requires an air ambulance with medical staff at a cost of $70,000 to fly from Hawaii to Virginia.  His family needs your support to help bring Peter home.  Find out more details and make a donation at http://sites.google.com/site/bringpeterhome/
