Adopt a Spot


Adopt a Spot Dalmatian Rescue, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding homes for homeless dogs, is asking for donations to help a sick animal.  Julie is a ten week dalmatian puppy who needs a live-saving liver shunt.  The surgery will cost an estimated $3,000 to $5,000.  To keep track of Julie's progress or to donate, visit www.adoptaspotdalrescue.com/Julie.html

RMHC Day of Change


September 3-10th--Local McDonald’s restaurants and the Ronald McDonald’s House Charities (RMHC) of Norfolk are preparing for a week long fundraising drive. RMHC Day of Change is a national effort to bring awareness to the organization and raise money to support the services the houses provide to families in need. Restaurants in Hampton Roads have extended the one-day event on September 9 to a week-long event, September 3-10. Supporters will be encouraged to drop their spare change in the RMHC donations boxes located in the restaurants and drive-thrus.

The 2010 Chesapeake Rubber Duck Race


Saturday, September 11th -- CHIP of Chesapeake presents the 2010 Chesapeake Rubber Duck Race on Saturday, September 11th at the Intracoastal Waterway at Great Bridge.  Adopt a rubber duck for a chance to win a 2010 Nissan Versa.  Proceeds will benefit CHIP of Chesapeake and its effort to make sure children get a healthy start in school.  For information, visit www.ChesapeakeDuckRace.org.

10th Annual Day of Remembrance and Hope


Saturday, September 11 at 8:00 a.m., the 10th Annual Day of Remembrance and Hope will take place at Gosnold's Hope Park, 901 East Little Back River Road, in Hampton.  This event will offer a special time of reflection for those lives lost in the September 11, 2001 attacks and celebrate the contributions of the armed services and public safety personnel who protect the nation every day. The ceremony will include participation by representatives of all armed services, a presentation of the colors, a proclamation by the City of Hampton, live music, and a rifle volley and playing of Taps.  The ceremony will be followed by a public reading of the names of those lost on September 11, 2001 and those who have given their lives to preserve freedom since 9/11.  The reading will be held beside the Trees of Hope, which were planted in the park with co-mingled soils from the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the Pennsylvania crash site of United Flight 93.
This observance continues a ten-year tradition with the first memorial taking place on December 11, 2001, months after the September 11 attacks. 11th Annual Community Gardening Festival

Pink Martini Night Southside


Sunday, September 12th 5:30-9:30pm-Pink Martini Night returns for fun and lively evenings on the Southside at the Chrysler Museum of Art to benefit Susan G. Massage for the Cure at Massage Envy


Tuesday, September 14th--All 627 Massage Envy centers nationwide will dedicate their entire day’s business to “Massage for the Cure” to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. During this one-day event in Virginia Beach, $15 from every one hour massage will be donated to the Tidewater affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.... All one-hour massages are specially priced for only $49 for all guests and members.   Since the event’s inception in 2005, Massage Envy has raised more than $1.4 million for Susan G. Komen for the Cure with 100 percent of the proceeds being used for education, screening and treatment programs in the community. This year’s goal is to raise at least $500,000. Donations will be accepted now through SEPT 14th.

EMS Golf Tournament to benefit the Virginia Beach Association of Rescue Squad Vo


Wednesday, Sept. 22nd--The second annual EMS Golf Tournament to benefit the Virginia Beach Association of Rescue Squad Volunteers will be held at the Virginia Beach National Golf Club.  Funds raised will be used to support various programs, events and retention programs for the 1,000+ volunteer EMS providers in Virginia Beach. The 2nd Annual Beach Century Bike Tour


Saturday, September 25-- The We Promise Foundation is proud to announce that our 2nd Annual Beach Century Bike Tour at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center! Our 2010 tour offers riders the choice of 33 miles, 50 miles, or a full century distance winding through the rural farmlands and marshes of southeastern Virginia. All three ride distances will launch and finish at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center intersection of North Landing Road and George Mason Drive. Enrollment is limited to only 300 riders. Cost is $20 for single rider early registration, $25 for single rider late registration, and $15 for team rider registration. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Riders must raise a minimum of $100 in addition to the registration fee to participate in the ride and event registration will remain open until ride is full. 4th Annual MDA Golf Tournament


Sunday, September 26th--The York County-Williamsburg Professional Firefighters is sponsoring our 4rd Annual Benefit Golf Tournament to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).  As you may already know, firefighters across the nation work hand in hand annually to “Fill the Boot” for Jerry’s kids to raise money for research to find a cure for Muscular Dystrophy.  This year will be no different.  We will raise money by holding our annual golf tournament.  This event will be held September 26, 2010 at the prestigious Kingsmill River Course located in Williamsburg, Virginia. 

We would like to request a charitable donation to assist our event.  Please remember that your gift is a charitable donation to a tax-exempt organization (MDA).  You may elect to sponsor a “golf course hole” for $150 or you may wish to donate a gift such as a gift certificate for your business (any size gift is appreciated), a prize that can be awarded the day of the event (no item is too big or too small), sponsor our event t-shirt or a cash/check donation.   All donations are greatly appreciated.   Donations can be picked up locally by calling 757-784-7985.

Memory Walk '10


Sunday, Oct 10th at 10am--Memory Walk is the Alzheimer's Association's national signature event designed to raise awareness and funds so we can continue to provide care and support to families affected by the daily challenges of Alzheimer's disease. Peninsula Honda donated a 2010 Honda Fit towards our fundraising efforts. Military Concert


U.S. Joint Forces Command will host its 15th annual "Salute to Veterans" concert on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Christopher Newport University’s Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News. The event is free and open to the public.  

The concert is free but tickets are encouraged to help ensure seating. Tickets are available beginning Sept. 25.  People may obtain tickets through the Ticket and Tours (ITT) offices at Fort Eustis, Fort Monroe, Fort Story, Langley AFB, Naval Air Station Oceana, Little Creek, Naval Station Norfolk, Coast Guard Integrated Support Command and Ferguson Center for the Arts.  

Hampton's 3rd Annual Book Festival


Saturday, November 13, 2010--Hampton’s 3rd Annual Book Festival, organized and sponsored by the Hampton Literary Society, will be held from Noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, at the Hampton Roads Convention Center. The festival is free and open to the public. The event will be hosted by Hampton Literary Society founder, Veronica A. Davis. The 2010 festival will feature the literary talents of both local and national authors of all genres. Festival goers can have books signed by their favorite authors, and children can take part in fun games and crafts. Area schools and libraries have been invited to discuss and distribute materials about their reading and literacy promotion programs. Running For Dreams


Saturday, Nov. 20th--Toby’s Dream Foundation will host their first annual 5K Run and Kids Miler at Mt. Trashmore. Race begins at 0900.  It’s going to be a wonderful fall community event, great run location and mile walk/run for kids.
