Bake a Smile


Children and Adults are invited to come and bake for charity at the Young Chef's Academy's 2nd Annual "Bake a SMILE-Share the LOVE Make a SMILE” benefit on Sunday, February 12th, from 1pm to 3pm.  This event will benefit Operation Smile, a worldwide children’s medical charity that performs free cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries for children in need.

All baked items will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Norfolk.

All About Honey Bees


On Saturday, February 11 at 10:00am Currituck Extension will be offering a program “All About Honey Bees”. It will offer an overview of the history of honey bees and the modern hive; review the components of a modern hive. Also, some different ways to get started with honey bees and choosing a site for your bees and value of the honey bee as a pollinator. Our guest speaker is Linwood Potter a North Carolina State Master Beekeeper since 1986.

Share the Love Adoption Event


Share all the love at the "Share the Love" adoption event at the Portsmouth Humane Society, Wednesday, February 15th from 12-7pm. Adoption prices will be cut in half-$50 for adult dogs and $25 for any feline. Remember any cat adoption comes with a second kitty buddy free so that's double the love! CVFD presents Lost and Found Bluegrass Band


Friday, February 17, 2012 - 7:30 pm--Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department presents Lost and Found Bluegrass Band. With a legacy stretching over 30 years, Lost and Found are among the most resiliant and beloved bands in bluegrass. Admission $5 per person. Hoops for the Cure


Come out and support your Lady Monarchs as they compete against the VCU Rams at the annual Hoops for the Cure game. Game starts at 3:00pm and will be televised. The first 1000 guests that arrive at the game will receive a free Hoops for the Cure T-shirt. There will also be a survivor reception held before the game at 2:00pm for all breast cancer survivors who purchase a ticket.

Boys and Girls Club Thrift Store


Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula has recently opened a new Thrift Store at 4827 George Washington Memorial Hwy in York County. Visit the Thrift Store for a boutique experience at yard sale prices! You can also donate your gently used clothing, toys, household goods and more, and give them new life with someone else. All proceeds from the Thrift Store go directly into the youth development programs at Boys & Girls Clubs 15 locations throughout the Peninsula and surrounding communities. Chesapeake students of all ages are invited to enter the Chesapeake Environmental Improvement Council's "Clean and Green Poster Contest."  Illustrations should encourage the viewer to prevent littering.  First place winners will receive $200 savings bonds.

The 2012 Chesapeake Rubber Duck Race

3rd Annual "Rev It Up for Relay"


Sunday, May 6th--The Norfolk Sheriff's Office Relay for Life Team proudly sponsors the 3rd Annual "Rev It Up For Relay" A motorcycle poker run.  Registration begains at 9am at Bayside Harley Davidson in Portsmouth.  There will be trophies, prizes, music, raffles and a live auction! Food is also available for purchase at the After-Run party, kicking off at 12:30pm, at the Eagle's Nest Rockin' Country Bar in the Parkview Shopping Center in Chesapeake.  All proceeds go directly to Realy for Life.
