Jason Aldean singing "Drunk on You"
Jake Owen singing "Big Green Tractor"
Miranda Lambert singing Lady A's new song "Downtown"
Kacey Musgraves singing Miranda's "Mama's Broken Heart"
It could have happened...
Jason Aldean says that he heard "Drunk On You" and liked it but decided to pass on recording it for his album. In walked Luke Bryan who had a big hit with it. The same thing happend with Jake Owen who passed on "Big Green Tractor" and of course that was a HUGE song for Jason. He said, " “I think certain songs like that fall into the right hands for a reason. That song was a big song for Luke and may not have even ever been a single for us so it landed where it was supposed to.”
That seems to be the case for Miranda Lambert too...
She had the new Lady Antebellum song "Downtown" on hold but when Hillary Scott of Lady A came to Miranda and asked if they could record it instead, she agreed. Hillary said, "She really went above and beyond, and that's what you find in our amazing genre of country music. That the artists really do love each other and support one another." Good karma pays off.
Miranda's new song "Mama's Broken Heart" was written by Kacey Musgraves. Miranda says, "Mama's Broken Heart" is a song I kind of had to ask for. Kacey Musgraves is a girl I grew up with back in Texas, and we used to wrte together a lot and kind of went our separate ways. She was on 'Nashville Star' a couple of years ago. I don't think I was supposed to be pitched the song, but her sister actually shot some picturess at mine and Blake's wedding and she was there, too. At our rehearsal dinner, I went over and asked her, I was like, 'Are you gonna cut this song, or can I have it?' And she was like, 'I'll think about it for a couple of days.' She emailed me and said 'You can have it if I can sing harmony.' So that's her singin' the harmonies on it and actually, Kacey Musgraves, she has a new single out called 'Merry Go Round," so she's doin' great on her own now, but I had to actually beg for this song, and I'm so thankful that she gavie it to me 'cause I love 'Mama's Broken Heart."
